‪#‎mindfulness‬ ‪#‎optimistic‬ ‪#‎meditation‬ Take a few moments out of your day today and do 3 acts of kindness. Compliment someone, buy someone a coffee, hold the door for a few people etc... Doing this on a regular basis will help train your brain to think Optimistically about yourself.

There is no better way to get in a good mood than to do something nice for someone else and see then smile at you. It really does work!

#mindfulness #optimistic #meditation Love is one of those desired emotions we all want to feel. Love happens when you reach a tipping point in your thinking were by the majority of your thoughts about something is positive. In addition, LOVE surfaces when you accept yourself or someone else for who we/they are - regardless of their actions. You cut yourself or others some slack for you believe that we are all doing the best we can do at that moment.

We fall out of love when we begin to see actions that we do not accept and that chips away at our unconditional acceptance - thus we fall out of love.

When it comes to ourselves, we can look at our actions and still accept them because we are attempting to act better every day. If we revert to some behavior that we do not like we can be compassionate with ourselves and start over when we fail.

This is what Mindfulness Meditation teaches us when we practice. This attitude allows us to still love ourselves for the long term.

#mindfulness #optimistic #meditation How can you help others? When you ask the people around you how they feel and really listen to them as they describe these feelings you will learn how they are thinking.

Feelings are the result of thoughts and this gives you a glimpse as to what they are thinking. Ask them WHY they are feeling this way?

If you want to help them, then help them generate more balanced Optimistic thoughts (that they believe to be true) that are just slightly more Optimistic than the ones they currently have. Ask then to come up with the evidence to support their negative thinking. Usually negative thinking is made up from a bunch of assumptions (not evidence based).

Here are some other questions you can ask them: When they are feeling down and say negative things, ask them "Is that 100% true" "do you know that for sure?" or if they say that others don't like them then ask them "Can you really read minds?" "Do any of us really know what is going on in people's heads?"

One last thing... if you hear them criticize others then point out something positive about the subject of their criticism.

These kinds of responses will help develop more balanced thinking in them and in the long run it will help! Be gentle and patient - they likely have years of negative thinking to undo; just like you. 🙂

#mindfulness #optimistic #meditation 3 main issues... There are basically 3 main issues that we all need to work on and they encompass all other issues...

LOVE - TRUST - PATIENCE

Love yourself When the majority of thoughts about yourself is positive, that is love. This is a necessary foundation for moving forward and loving others. Love is all about accepting yourself without condition - "I am acceptable just as I am."

Trust in your ability in that you can deal with any situation that comes up which leads you to trust world. Trust allows you to to whatever you want. Trust is the antidote to fear - which we all have.

Patience... No one gets it right the fist time and the journey is important. Focus on the present and see what is good. Patience is all about accepting what is need to move forward in a positive direction.

Create balanced and realistic Optimistic Outlook statements and Affirmations that start to shift your beliefs and thinking about these three topics. When you improve these traits you will be well on your way to feeling better.

#mindfulness #optimistic #meditation What causes fear... Fear is triggered when you start to believe that a negative outcome is about to occur and you do not want it to happen. You think that you are in imminent physical or even social danger AND you do not trust yourself that you can handle any situation with your own abilities.

In order to combat your fear you can come up with some Optimistic outlooks that look upon a situation in a more realistic light. When you start coming up with these better thoughts remember that there are many possible outcomes to all situations.

You also have many abilities to handle many situations that you are currently not acknowledging. What are some of your abilities? Can you remain calm in many situations? Can you come up with many options when needed? Are you creative? Are you able to ask for help? What is the worst that can happen? Is there anything I can do to make things better at this moment?

Also remember that everything is temporary and this too shall pass.

Take these Optimistic outlooks and recite them regularly. Doing this will help retrain your brain to not automatically think this way the next time you are in a similar situation. You will find that the more you practice thinking better the better you become. Eventually you will reach the tipping point where by the majority of beliefs are Optimistic and thus that situation is no longer fearful.

For example if you have a fear of flying some counter points would be "There are thousands of flights everyday and they are all safe. Turbulence in the air is just like bumps on the road when you are in a car. The pilot and crew are just as interested in arriving safety as I am and they will do everything to stay clear of danger. etc...

Recite your Counter Points regularly and soon you will hit that tipping point.

#mindfulness #optimistic #meditation Quiet the mind... When people are feeling bad they search for ways to quiet their mind; to turn off their brains. So we get frustrated when we cannot do this. Guess what? You cannot stop your brain from generating thoughts. You CAN however retrain it to focus on something more soothing like your breathing or general Optimistic thoughts or focusing on the present moment.

This new focus WILL trigger positive emotions if you believe them and that causes you to act in a positive way - ALWAYS! The trick is to start of slowly and work your way up the Optimistic ladder by reaching for balanced thoughts that you can start to buy into.

Be gentle and do not judge yourself if you revert back to your negative patterns. Many of us had years of negative training that we eventually will undo - it just takes time and patience. You will be fine.

#mindfulness #optimistic #meditation Skepticism about affirmations... Some people are skeptical about doing affirmations.

So I ask them: "If you told someone over and over again that they are a loser, would that have an effect on how they perceive themselves over time?" Their response is always "of course".

Then I ask them "So why do you think that saying affirmations will have no effect on yourself?" 🙂

The key to getting affirmations to work is using balanced and reasonable affirmations. Reach for a thought that causes a slightly better feeling when you begin this process. Over time you can change your thinking to even better thinking leading to even better feelings.

Slow and steady wins the race and consistency is the key!

#mindfulness #optimistic #meditation Imagination... Our imagination makes us different from our animal friends on this planet. It allows us to save time by contemplating possible outcomes and by conducting mental experiments. This saves time and resources and is very handy.

Our imagination also can make us feel badly if we image negative scenarios or outcomes. Remember that thoughts you believe to be true WILL always trigger emotions! These thoughts also include "imagined" thoughts. Many of us envision stories (imagination) all the time of what people think of us, what may happen and what we could have done differently etc...

Sometimes these are constructive thoughts that help us move on but sometimes they keep us in a negative thinking and feeling pattern. If you are constantly thinking of impending gloom then think about the lyrics in this song by The Temptations: "It's just my imagination, running away with me..." You can refocus your thinking by gently guiding your thinking to more balanced and realistic thoughts.

The next time you catch yourself in a negative rut - say these words to yourself - "It's just my imagination coming up with a story of how things may be." Now look for evidence that does not support this negative thinking. Is what you are thinking 100% true 100% of the time? It what you are thinking a "sure thing"? Take 5 slows deep breaths and you will then start to see a shift in your feelings.

Doing this on a regular basis will help retraining your brain to automatically look for realistic scenarios. This will make you feel better.

#mindfulness #optimistic #meditation Visualize an event... If you find that you are nervous about a particular event then take a few moments and for a couple of days prior to the event, visualize that event going well.

Visualize yourself feeling comfortable and calm at this event regardless of what happens!

If you do this regularly, before the event, then when the event arrives it will not be as fearful because you have confidence in an Optimistic outlook.

This is the same thing world class athlete's do to prepare for a big event. It is a proven way to change your thinking and reduce fear and anxiety.

#mindfulness #optimistic #meditation Grieving and moving on... We all go through the grieving process when we loose someone special - family or friends or even a pet.

We get past the tragic event by acknowledge your feelings of loss and then gently and consciously focusing on the many years of joy and happiness that we have gained from our loved ones instead of focusing on the actual death.

You do not have to let that one event be your focus. Make your loved one's entire life be your focus.

Come up with Gratitude Statements for what your loved one has brought you or taught you. When you recite these statements on a regular basis and gently shift your thinking to these more balanced thoughts, in no time you will be moving forward to the next stage of your life.

If just comes down to what you choose to focus on. 🙂

#mindfulness #optimistic #meditation Forgiveness sets you free... Many of us are caught up with past events. We may not be moving past an action that someone may have taken against us. We constantly re-live this event thinking how horrible it was to have this happen to us; how horrible this person is etc...

Set yourself free by letting this go. Forgive the people who may have caused an unfortunate event to have happened. Forgiveness means you understand that they did what they did because of how they were feeling at that moment.

If it was a bad act, then it was an indication of how badly they were feeling at that time. You are not condoning the act, you are just understanding the motivation behind it. You are being compassionate as we all have done things that we wish we did not do. They did the best they could have done at that moment and their actions were simply trying desperately to make themselves feel better about themselves.

Set yourself free means that you will start to live again by living in the present and not the past.

#mindfulness #optimistic #meditation Body Sensation Meditation... Today conduct a body scan meditation. This is when you start out by focusing on your breath and then make a mental note of all the sensations that come into your body. If no sensation is strong enough to take your focus then then focus on your breath.

What this does is train you to be present with your body sensations. You teach yourself to observe and be present with what ever arises - in a non judgmental way.

Perhaps you feel a knot in your stomach, then note to yourself "Ah I am experiencing a knot in my stomach."

Perhaps you are experiencing pain in your shoulders and neck, then note to yourself "I am experiencing some pain/tension right now."

Perhaps you are experiencing some excited feelings, then note "I am experiencing excitement in my body."

Body sensations come and go. Many people fear them especially when they are having a panic attack or general anxiety. They are constantly check-in in to see where the next body sensation is coming from and then FEAR it getting worse. You believe that these sensations are the start of another panic attack and you will loose control etc...

Be gentle with yourself and do not judge yourself for having any of these thoughts. Our body sensations are just the result of a thought/belief that have entered our minds. THAT's ALL. They are not dangerous in any way.

By simply "noting" the sensations while meditating your are taking the first step in allowing them to be and not judging them. You are not making things worse by beating yourself up for having them. You are not exaggerating their importance. You can then experiment and see if there are any beliefs that are triggering these bodily responses. If you are in a situation in life that causes you some emotional responses which in turn trigger intense sensations you can notice then first and that simple act allows you to take a step back and decide if the underlying thinking/beliefs are indeed true.

This distance then allows you to think more clearly and if needed you can either now or at a later time take some positive action to change a situation that is not what you want.

Do this on a regular basis and you will amazed at how much more aware you will be of your body sensations and emotions in your daily life. Relax they are just your body doing what it needs to do at this moment and let it be.

#mindfulness #optimistic #meditation Static... Negative thoughts are like "static" of the brain. They are preventing you from seeing your potential and what is good in your life. They are clouding your judgement. They are distracting you from moving in the direction you really want to move to.

Be Mindful about your thoughts and just observe them - do not get angry at yourself for having them or judge yourself for coming up with them. Observing your thoughts is the first step that will allow you to slowly distance yourself from them and say "Well that's not necessarily true....".

Most of us learned how to think negatively about ourselves from our previous life experience. You can change the way your process your life starting now!

When you start to shift the negative chatter to something more reasonable the static diminishes and you can begin to think clearer. This clarity will open up new possibilities.

Reciting Optimistic counter thoughts with Affirmations, Gratitude Statements enables you to retrain your brain to automatically generate Optimistic thoughts that counter that negative static! You will feel better!

#mindfulness #optimistic #meditation External circumstances are just that ... Is there something external to you that you think is making you feel badly? Perhaps someone did something or someone didn't act the way you wanted. Maybe you want to possess something and are jealous of others who have it?

Nothing external to us ever triggers our emotions. External circumstances may trigger a belief/story within us and it is that story that is causing us to feel the related emotion.

Next time you feel discomfort ask yourself why do you “need" someone to do something? or why do you "need" to possess something? Upon examination of your story you will notice that somehow you are linking having that external "thing" to increasing your self-worth; you need the praise or need that shiny new possession. As a result, when you do not have that external thing you feel badly. WHY?

Well it stems from the beliefs that your self-worth is somehow validated or increased from getting and having that external "thing". In other words your lack of self-worth is causing you to grasp at an outcome of something external. News Flash!! Nothing external ever gives you any value. There are not enough actions in the world or possessions that you can have that will ever make you happy in the long term. Your value comes from within. Your happiness comes from how you perceive your own self-worth.

Practicing Mindfulness allows us to notice those stories that are causing our emotions. Once you know the root beliefs about yourself that are causing your feelings you can start to shift them by reciting Optimistic, Affirmative statements with regards to your own worth and value. Start slowly and work your way up the Optimistic ladder. Soon your self-worth will increase and your need for anything external decreases.

You will feel better by your own accord!

#mindfulness #optimistic #meditation Irritation.... Do you find yourself irritated by some people? Do you know Why? Have you looked at your thoughts then you are in this mood?

For example , perhaps you get irritated by bad drivers. Why? Maybe because they are causing you to be late. So what? Why is this an issue? Maybe you are irritated just because they are impeding "you" in some way - you think/believe you are not being noticed? When you ask yourself "why" numerous times to each response you start to uncover the root of your stories/beliefs.

Once you know what your core beliefs are then create balanced thoughts that counter your negative ones and this will help focus your mind to a better place. Some balanced thoughts in this case can be the following: "Maybe this person is doing the best they can do. Maybe they are nervous about driving." "This person is not doing anything specifically directed at me. They have their own issues and are likely consumed in their own self talk at this moment." "So what if I am late, people will not think less of me and they will understand.

Getting upset will definitely NOT accomplish anything or make this situation better. It will just put more stress into YOUR life - providing NOTHING.

Perhaps once you notice your initial response you can just let it me and let it go by noting it and saying to yourself "interesting reaction" and then have a little chuck to yourself about getting so upset about nothing.

When you think better thoughts you WILL feel better.

#mindfulness #optimistic #meditation Emotion Meditation... Today conduct an emotion meditation. This is when you start out by focusing on your breath and then make a mental note of all the feelings that come into your mind/body. If nothing comes to mind then focus on your breath.

What this exercise does is train you to focus as well as being present with your emotions as they are an indicator of your thinking/beliefs at this very moment.

Make no judgement about yourself as you observe your emotions. Just note them in a non judgmental way.

For example , perhaps you feel jealousy, then note to yourself "Ah I am experiencing jealousy in my body."

Perhaps you are experiencing grief, then note to yourself "I am experiencing grief right now in my body."

Perhaps you are experiencing happiness, then note "I am experiencing happiness in my body."

Emotions are complex and there is rarely just one. It's perhaps easy to note the big emotions but are there some smaller ones? If you are experiencing happiness is there also some fear? Perhaps fear of loosing the happy feeling?

Be gentle with yourself and do not judge yourself for having any of these feelings. Our feelings are just the result of a thought/belief that is active in our minds. THAT's ALL. They are passing and always changing.

By simply "noting" the emotions your are taking the first step in allowing them to be and not judging them. You are not making things worse by beating yourself up for being angry for example. You are also distancing your self slightly from the underlying emotions/thought/belief.

Meditating on emotions trains your mind to be present with them and if you are in a situation in life that causes some emotional responses you can/will notice then first and that simple act allows you to take a step back and decide if the underlying thinking/beliefs are indeed true. This distance then allows you to think more clearly and if need to you can either now or at a later time take some positive action to change a situation that is not what you want. Or you can just be with your emotion and let itself burn out.

Do this on a regular basis and you will amazed at how much more aware you will be of your emotions in your daily life. Initially you may be put off by what you discover. Many times our emotions are so automatic we may not be aware of them so discovering them may be an uncomfortable surprise. Relax, they are just emotions based on stories that your imagination has created. Don't judge them and let them be.

#mindfulness #optimistic #meditation Appreciation... Take a few moments as you start your day to feel the good feelings while you think of 5 things that you are grateful for. It does not matter how small these things are. Relish in the feelings of joy and happiness as you ponder these wonderful things that are part of your life.

Perhaps it's the kindness of a person that you are grateful for, perhaps you are grateful for being able to have a relaxing cup of coffee, perhaps you are grateful for children or other family members.

Everyone can always be grateful for this experience of life or be grateful for our breath. If you do this everyday then you will start to retrain your brain to become an Optimistic Brain. New neural pathways develop in the brain which helps to automatically come up with these types of thoughts. Over time this kind of thinking will become a habit!

It really does work! 🙂

#mindfulness #optimistic #meditation Set your story aside ... Many times we get caught up in a story and start rehashing something that just happened. We go over the situation over and over again thinking "I should have said that better..." We may also go over future events rehearsing a potentially negative situation in our minds. All of this negative thinking causes you to feel "off".

The next time you find yourself focusing on something negative and you catch yourself ruminating (obsessing over it and thinking constantly about it) tell yourself "What if I just let this go for now - not forever but just for the next few minutes." You will see INSTANTLY a shift in your feelings as you allow yourself to release the story. By doing this on a temporary basis you release the resistance to needing to completely let it go. You are only letting the story go for now.

By letting go of the story just temporarily, you open up space between you and the story. That HOOK that the story has on you becomes weaker. Don't try to banish the story forever as that is too much to ask. The little timeout does indeed help you put distance between you and the story and those negative thoughts about that story.

You will find that the story may come back at a later date but it is less intense and the negative feelings are not so strong allowing yourself to release it again and again and this shifts your thinking away from the obsessive thinking and redirects it to more realistic thinking such as "this isn't as bad as I once thought" or "I will be fine" or "the situation will be fine as it will pass."

We usually are unaware that we CAN give ourselves a break from the negative chatter and it works better in small increments of time - just for a minute or two at the beginning. Regularity is the key to this exercise.

#mindfulness #optimistic #meditation Releasing negative thoughts... When you pay attention to your thoughts and you see negative ones, do not push them away or say to yourself these should not be here. Take another approach and let them be, say hello to them, allow them to surface.

Fighting with your thoughts will just make them stronger. Think of your thoughts as beach balls. When you fight to keep the beach balls under water you will fight forever. When you let them surface you can let them drift away.

Treat your negative thoughts in the same way... Let them surface and acknowledge them and do not judge them or beat yourself up for having them. Once you do this you can then place them aside by saying to yourself "that's interesting but it may not be true all the time." This reduces the fear you have of them. When you do this you are also starting to release the attachment to them. You see them as passing.

Do not worry if your negative thoughts/beliefs keep coming - the more you struggle with them the more they will appear. Letting them surface will allow you to release them when you do not attach your beliefs to them. You will notice that they return less and less frequently.

Be gentle and be aware - do not control - just guide. Doing this regularly and it really changes the way you automatically think. Better thinking (with new thoughts that you believe to be true) results in better feeling and thus triggers better actions.

#mindfulness #optimistic #meditation Dirty Pan ... When you first start paying attention to your thoughts (being Mindful), you may find some surprising ones.

You may be a little disturbed by the amount of negative chatter directed towards yourself and others. Don't be put aback by them. Now that you stat noticing them you may actually think they are getting worse - this is not true - you are just now aware of what really is going on. The good news is that what you are now aware of, you can change! All of this is normal and you are normal. You were just taught to process your life in this negative way. YOU CAN CHANGE!

Just like when you clean a roasting pan - when you start cleaning it initially the water gets dirty and mucky as you start dislodging the dirt. As you continue cleaning the pan and rinsing the water and pan gets cleaner and cleaner. Eventually all the muck is gone and you have a sparkling pan that you can use again for many more meals! Cleaning the muck of negative chatter is the same. Initially your thinking gets murky but slowly replacing these unrealistic thoughts with balanced realistic ones is like rinsing the pan. Eventually with some work by correcting negative thoughts and reciting more balanced ones to yourself, you will see your thoughts becoming better.

Counter all your negative thoughts with Optimistic self talk in a gentle manner; be grateful for what you have in the present moment. You may need to recite your statements several times a day. After they take hold (and they will) you are in a maintenance mode where you just reinforce your Optimistic thinking constantly and it's not a big deal at all!

#mindfulness #optimistic #meditation Tipping point... When you look at the Optimistic and balanced side of any situation thus training your thinking to shift gradually over time, you will ultimately hit a tipping point when your Optimistic thoughts outnumber negative ones and that situation is no longer an issue.

It's the same thing that happens when you eat foods that are considered "acquired tastes". Over time you notice more and more positive aspects and then all of a sudden you declare you like that food; you hit that tipping point.

Consciously and regularly refocusing your mind on the good that is in everything and every situation WILL retrain your brain to become an Optimistic Brain! A great way to learn this skill is to conduct a Gratitude Meditation.

#mindfulness #optimistic #meditation Optimism and business... Optimistic people are more motivated and productive at work. Why? Thoughts that you believe to be true ALWAYS trigger your emotions and those emotions trigger ALL your actions - actions that are taken either consciously or subconsciously in order to either maintain or move into a better feeling state. In addition, your body also reacts physically to your emotions.

When you are Optimistic about your work/career you are easily and willingly engaged to take on new challenges because you believe in your abilities. When you believe that things will work out, you do not count yourself out of any experiences. When you train your brain to be an Optimistic Brain you will find that you will be far less influenced by fear especially the fear of any "potential" negative outcome.

When you no longer act because of fear, you will amazingly be able to accomplish what you really want to accomplish because you take many actions willingly and enthusiastically and it will only be a matter to time before you reach your goals. It all starts with your thinking!

Start with listening to your self talk. Meditation is a great way to practice this skill - noting your thoughts. Next identify the contents of your chatter and question whether they are 100% true 100% of the time. Now come up with more balanced and Optimistic NEW thoughts and beliefs. You will find that the antidote to fear is TRUST. How can you start trusting yourself and your abilities? What skills about you CAN you trust? Build on that belief.

Start slow and work your way up the Optimistic ladder. Recite them to yourself in a mirror for an extra punch! It really does work.

#mindfulness #optimistic #meditation What others do... Some people say that others cause their emotions. "They push my buttons!" etc... This is simply NOT true.

The actions of others may implant and trigger thoughts in your head (thoughts that you somewhat believe to be true) and THAT is what is causing your emotions. If you did not believe these negative thoughts in your mind then they would not have had any effect on you.

Reciting regular Affirmations, Gratitude Statements and Counter Pointing exercises help you look at the Optimistic side of all situations as a default and it helps retrain your brain!

#mindfulness #optimistic #meditation Negative thinking closes you off... When you are thinking negative thoughts you are closing yourself off from all the world has to offer. You prevent yourself from seeing all that is around you.

We do this because we are currently not feeling that great and we fear feeling even worse, so we close ourselves off from the world. Negative thinking causes us to view the world with tunnel vision. You will not see any opportunities that will benefit you because you discount much of what you experience as "not for me" or "likely not going to happen anyway so why bother..." etc...

Open up your vision and view the world with a wide angle lens. Identify your negative thoughts and come up with thoughts that counter these negative ones. Opening your eyes opens your perception of yourself and your life. You open yourself up to new things and new experiences and these experiences can bring much joy in your life if you only let them in.

Conducting a Meditation practice on a regular basis will help you notice when you are caught up in your negative thinking and help you develop the stills to start over by being present.

#mindfulness #optimistic #meditation #creativity Judging yourself... Most of us have negative thoughts about how we look or who we are as a person. We learned to judge ourselves from the people around us and from society as a whole.

What kinds of negative self talk do you have about yourself? When you pass a mirror and see your reflection - what is the first thing that enters your mind?

Identify all your negative self thoughts and create Affirmations, Counter Points and Gratitude Statements for each and every one.

When you start with working on how you think about yourself first the rest will fall into place easily. Smile at yourself in a mirror when you recite these Optimistic outlooks.

Take 5 things right now that you love about yourself (no matter how small) and bathe yourself for 2 minutes for each thought. Let yourself really believe and thus feel these thoughts. Doing this everyday while working your way up the love ladder will start to improve your beliefs. This really works when you do this for a couple of weeks on a daily basis!.

#mindfulness #optimistic #meditation External things... Many of us think that external things will make us happy - that new shirt, winning the lottery, meeting the person of our dreams, accomplishing something big etc...

These may make you happy temporarily and these feeling s do not last very long. Grasping at external things to make you happy is an endless quest - you can never get enough stuff or achievements to make you happy!

The only thing that can make you happy is to start to think "happy" thoughts that you believe to be true about yourself and your life. You do this by focusing on the GOOD that is around you. You can retrain your brain to do this by consciously directing it in a kind and gentle manner, to balanced thoughts that are of an Optimistic nature and to appreciate the good little things that you see. It may take some time but slowly and surely you will start to turn your thinking around and not have to consciously redirect your mind all the time.

If you have negative stories that come up all the time then identify your negative thinking - ask yourself why you believe these thoughts to be true - ask yourself are these thoughts 100% true 100% of the time?

Now come up with better thoughts - recite them to yourself either while you meditate, or while you look into a mirror, or just before you go to bed, or while looking at a picture of yourself as a child, or even while exercising/walking etc...

Give it a try for one week and you will see results.

#mindfulness #optimistic #meditation Surround yourself with Optimistic people... There is no shame at wanting to be around people that are moving forward in your life.

If someone around you is always negative, you can tell them that you prefer not to focus on the negative anymore. Change the subject if they continue to talk negatively and if needed you no longer have to interact with them as much.

Develop relationships with people that are Optimistic thinkers and they will help you stay focused on the good that is in your life.
