#‎mindfulness‬ ‪#‎optimistic‬ ‪#‎meditation‬ Present moment focus... Take a moment and as you travel to work or travel to do an errand etc... conduct this powerful exercise...

Just observe your journey to your destination in present moment awareness. Do not judge anything along the way - just be in the present moment and observe.

Many times we do not pay attention to the present moment because we are busy going over a past event (replaying it and wishing it unfolded differently) or worrying about a future event. When you practice being present and just observing it's like meditation - you are practicing your focusing on something neutral. As you conduct this exercise, every time you notice that your mind wondered off - then gently bring it back to what's in front of you. Guiding your attention back to the present is the point of the exercise so do not judge yourself negatively when you start over.

The more you practice you longer you will be able to hold your focus and the fewer times you will be inclined to wonder off. Instead of judging yourself when your mind wanders congratulate yourself for noticing it wandering - that is the point of the exercise - noticing!

This exercise is extremely helpful because when you are confronted with a situation that you do not like - you will have practice shifting and maintaining your focus to something else. You are able to let the past go. You are able to put your worries about what MAY or MAY NOT happen aside and just enjoy your life as it is right now.

Give it a try for a couple of weeks. 🙂

#‎mindfulness‬ ‪#‎optimistic‬ ‪#‎meditation‬ Before you go to sleep tonight, take 10 minutes and come up with 5 things that you are grateful for.

Think of each of these grateful things for 2 minutes and relish in the Optimistic feelings that they generate. This is another exercise that helps you focus on what is good in your life.

Think better, feel better, act better. It all starts with what you focus on and think about.

#‎mindfulness‬ ‪#‎optimistic‬ ‪#‎meditation‬ Shyness... Are you shy? Shyness is an action that is caused by a feeling. All actions are triggered by our feelings; you want to minimize negative feelings (or soothe a hurt) so your action is to stay quiet by minimizing contact with people.

All our interpretations of social situations were learned through experience. Perhaps you were told to keep quiet as a child, or looked down upon when you spoke up, or ridiculed for expressing an opinion or judged for making a mistake etc... All of these past situations caused you to think "If I stay quiet I will not have any negative thing happen - I will stay invisible and thus not be a target for others...".

Identify your negative feelings and thoughts when you become shy. What are you fearing? What insecurities are to buying into? etc....

Create and recite Optimistic outlooks that counter these negative beliefs on a regular basis. Over time you will be able to undo your current negative beliefs and replace them with more balanced thinking about yourself. When you start to shift your negative thinking you will notice that you will become more social.

Anyone can change - just take small steps.

#‎mindfulness‬ ‪#‎optimistic‬ ‪#‎meditation‬ Change and trust... Many times in our life, changes come upon us. We change our jobs, have kids, move to a different country, make new friends etc...Change is inevitable but yet many of us are uncomfortable with change. This stems from a lack of trust that we can handle any new situation. Many times changing makes us unsure of a future outcome. We have thoughts of "Will I be OK?" or "Will this change make it worse?" etc...

You will be more comfortable with change when you start to trust in your own abilities and believing that life is a positive learning experience.

Come up with some affirming statements that are balance and believable addressing your lack of trust. This will help you move through those times when change is upon you. You will also be able to enjoy those times of change as a wonderful experience and journey. It all comes down to trusting yourself and your abilities.

#‎mindfulness‬ ‪#‎optimistic‬ ‪#‎meditation‬ What do I need to know... Have you ever been in a situation where by you just don't know what to do next? You are frustrated with the challenges that lay ahead and don't know where to turn? Does the journey that you see ahead of you look like it's going to be a long an hard journey?

We all know the expression that the journey of 1,000 miles begins with one step. This is so true and this meditation exercise will really help take these steps.

I find that when I meditate - by sitting quietly and just following my breath - after 5 minutes I start to recite to myself quietly and slowly "What is it that I need to know?" and then I follow my breath while I am in an open an receiving mindset. I always get inspiration of what small step to do next; an idea may pop into my head of what I can do next or what I should focus on.

These bursts of inspiration may not solve a larger issue but they are always one step that ultimately leads to another and keeps me moving forward; especially when I feel stuck. All little steps make up our paths to get to the bigger picture.

You don't have to meditate very long. Just 10 minutes each day will help you figure things out. Give it a try for a couple of weeks.

#‎mindfulness‬ ‪#‎optimistic‬ ‪#‎meditation‬ Inner talk... We all have internal talk. We judge ourselves and others and we constantly comment on what is happening externally. This is normal activity for our brains.

You will never be able to eliminate the chatter, but you can distance yourself from believing everything it comes up with. Meditation allows us to practice observing a thought as just a thought and letting it pass. You do not have to believe every thought that you have.

When you let your thoughts just be and do not control their presence then the hold they have on you (the intensity of these thoughts) will lessen and in time they will pass so quickly you barely notice them. At this point you will perceive a quieter mind. How does one get to that point?

Meditation is a great way to practice being present and create space between you and your thinking. Some types of Meditation practices that you can do are the following: You can be present while observing your breathing or your thoughts as they pass or your emotions as they occur or body sensations as they occur or smells as you experience them or colors as you walk outside etc.... Meditation exercises are typically practiced by observing just one thing, gently guiding your mind back to that one thing when it wanders (and it will wander often) and doing this regularly helps you to be present in your daily life.

Just like anything in life, practice is the key to learning anything. It does not take that long - just 10 minutes a day.

#‎mindfulness‬ ‪#‎optimistic‬ ‪#‎meditation‬ External situations... Many people search for external situations and feedback to make them feel better. We seek praise or possessions because we think having them will make us feel better, We GRASP at the external to sooth something internal to ourselves.

Remember that you are all that you need. You will only feel better when you look inward and change the way you think; change the way you look at yourself and your life.

How you look at yourself is just a story. It's your own story and you can change it! The first thing to do is to stop believing the lies you tell about yourself. You do this by noticing them! When you feel "off" that is your indication that a lie has entered your mind - consciously or subconsciously. What is that lie? This is what being Mindful is all about - being aware of our inner stories.

You can examine your stories and start to change them by looking for the facts that actually support them or refute them. You will find that negative stories are almost never accurate. Changing the stories by changing the way you process your situations to focus on Optimistic outlooks WILL make you feel better. You can retrain your brain to do this automatically. It just takes some time to undo what you learned up to this point.

#‎mindfulness‬ ‪#‎optimistic‬ ‪#‎meditation‬ Judging others... Negative judgement is a learned behavior.

We are constantly judging ourselves and comparing ourselves against what we "think" others value. We negatively judge ourselves as a defense mechanism against the "perceived" judgement of others.

We judge others negatively because we think that if we compare ourselves to others and we reduce their value then our own value increases. "I am not THAT bad" we quietly tell ourselves.

Make an effort today to not talk badly about anyone - including yourself. Just be present and observe what is around you and take it all in. When you catch yourself judging then you can place those thoughts aside and start over again with being present. When you catch yourself judging, you can say to yourself ... "Oh that's a judgement. People are doing the best they can do at this very moment - including myself. All is well." Do not beat yourself up for judging - it may take some time to get out of this habit - and it is only a habit. You can UNLEARN anything. Be patient and be kind with yourself!

Since negative judgement are triggered because of our low self esteem, you can feel good about yourself by reciting Affirmations, Gratitude Statements and Counter Points about your positive aspects. This will make you feel better about yourself and you will see that your judgmental nature will disappear!

#‎mindfulness‬ ‪#‎optimistic‬ ‪#‎meditation‬ Addictions... Drugs, Alcohol, Food, Sex, Smoking etc... can be addictions when u use them or act on them because you need them to feel good or better. The behaviors are used to sooth your negative emotions. These are all temporary measures and never solve the real issue, that being your negative belief in yourself.

Positive thoughts about yourself and your situations are the only thing that makes you feel good for the long term. Analyze your negative thoughts, create Optimistic outlooks for each and recite them DAILY.

The trick is to start slow and work your way up the Optimistic ladder. You know you are on the right track when you start to see a shift in your feelings; even small shifts. Over time you can increase your Optimistic beliefs in yourself. Be gentle and patient.

Once you start to think better about yourself and your life you will see a reduction in the need to sooth your negative feelings by these addictive behaviors. Changing your beliefs will foster a change in emotions and you will no longer feel the need to sooth them as they are becoming smaller over time. At his point you will see that your actions of over indulgence will not be as compelling as they once were. This will make it easier for you to resist the temptation to indulge and inspire you to maintain a healthier life's path.

Changing your thoughts/beliefs, changes your feelings and that changes your actions!

#‎mindfulness‬ ‪#‎optimistic‬ ‪#‎meditation‬ I Should... When ever you say "I should ...." and you don't, ask yourself "why haven't I done it?"

If you really don't want to (you have adopted someone else's suggestion) then don't do it and stop thinking you should. If you want to do it, then ask yourself "why do I want to?" .....

The next step is to list all the positive benefits and reasons why you want and don't want to do something and then ask yourself "why do I think I don't deserve these positive benefits?" (which is really why you are not doing what you say you want).

Counter these negative thoughts with Optimistic Self Talk about your worthiness. Use balanced thoughts and recite them on a daily basis. Very soon you will no longer say I should and just do!

#‎mindfulness‬ ‪#‎optimistic‬ ‪#‎meditation‬ Riding a bike... When people are feeling bad they search for ways to quiet the mind; to turn off their brains. You cannot stop your brain from generating thoughts. Seemingly random thoughts will always be generated and when these thoughts bother us or have hooks into us then we start to blame ourselves for having them in the first place. We fight against them. Stop fighting!

Meditation and being present/mindful helps train your brain to just let the thoughts be as they come up without judgement. Also creating counter thoughts to these negative assumptions helps deal with these automatic negative thoughts by creating balanced thinking that can be used to reason your way away from the hooks or beliefs you have in them.

The thought is never the problem; the belief you have in them which hooks you IS the reason you get so emotional when they come up. The next time these thoughts come up then say to yourself "that's interesting however there are other ways of looking at that situation" or "There may be reasons why this person reacted this way towards me that I may not be aware of..." or "This in not 100% true 100% of the time.." Now guide yourself back to being present - use your breath if you need to - and just enjoy what is in front of you right at this very moment. When you shift your focus to NOW you no longer worry about the future or past.

This process or being present and refocusing on the present when needed, is like riding a bicycle. At first you are very wobbly and shaky and even fall down. The more you practice fixing your balance etc... the more you learn to automatically adjust the balance as you go and before long it's habit and you no longer have to think about it. You simply enjoy riding your bike.

Optimistic thinking is the SAME. Just keep at it and before long you will not be aware you are doing it - just like you were likely not aware how negative your thinking was until you looked at it.

#‎mindfulness‬ ‪#‎optimistic‬ ‪#‎meditation‬ Thoughts are just thoughts.. Thoughts come up randomly all the time. Some are based in reality and some are just our imagination being really creative.

You can never try to prevent yourself from having thoughts. I seems the more you try to prevent specific thoughts from entering your mind the more often they actually will do just that. Trying not to have negative thoughts come up is like trying to keep beach balls under the water - you fight them forever because they always want to surface.

As the Beatles sing "Let it be, let be, oh let it be... " When you allow your negative thoughts "to be" AND then look at reasons why your belief in them is not 100% accurate, that is when they loose their impact emotionally and that is when they stop surfacing.

Thoughts are just thoughts and you can let them BE (allow them to be there) and then let them GO (no longer buy into them) and then gently replace them by focusing on balanced, realistic thoughts that cause you to feel better!

Doing this on a regular basis helps move your focus to what is good more easily. It's your choice whether you want to stay with a negative thought or stay with an Optimistic thought.

#‎mindfulness‬ ‪#‎optimistic‬ ‪#‎meditation‬ Everyone is doing the best they can... Have you have ever been irritated with the perceived (in)competence of others, such as slow drivers or cashiers that take more time than you think is acceptable or wait staff that get your order wrong?

This irritation comes about when you think their actions are directed and calculated specifically towards you. Your EGO is not happy at being treated a certain way. It generates thoughts of a negative nature such as "I am not being noticed or acknowledged.... I deserve better... I want to be treated better... This situation will cause negative judgement upon me later on... etc..."

All these negative thoughts stem from a negative view of your "self". You think you are not up to par with everyone else and when people give you bad service it's proof that you are not worthy of better. Or you think that if someone impedes your attempt to accomplish something (knowingly or unknowingly) you assume this failure will result in a negative judgement either immediately or sometime in the future.

One way of switching your thinking at the moment is to say to say to yourself "This person is just like me. They are tying to go the best job they can. They may still be learning this new skill of theirs. There are many things that I do that are not perfect - how would I want others to react to my short comings?

These new balanced thoughts will help you put some distance between you and your negative EGO thoughts. When you do this on a regular basis you will be surprised at how automatic this new way of thinking starts to be your default method of thinking.

When you think better you feel better and you act better - ALWAYS!

‪#‎mindfulness‬ ‪#‎optimistic‬ ‪#‎meditation‬ Overcome Financial Issues: Are you in debt? Do you spend money you don't have?

Your ACTION of purchasing stuff you don't need or cannot afford is taken in an attempt to try to make yourself feel better - you are soothing a hurt and you think having "Stuff" will make you feel better.

Even thought you know going into more debt will not make things better your immediate need to own one more item supersedes the need to be debt free. Then the guilt kicks in of what you have done. It's a viscous cycle that CAN be turned around.

Identify your negative self talk that you are having in your mind when you are feeling the need to buy more stuff. This negative thinking (that you believe to be true) is causing you to feel negatively. These negative feelings are triggering your actions.

Ask yourself why you are taking these actions? Ask yourself why you think your taking on MORE debt is acceptable even though it causes you other problems? Ask yourself "Why you need that item?" "Who are you trying to impress and why?" To these answers ask yourself "Why do you believe that?", so you get to the root issue.

In most cased you will see that having possessions is equated with your self worth - although temporarily. Counter negative self worth thoughts by reciting Optimistic Self Talk on a daily basis and soon your need to acquire stuff will diminish because you will start to think better of yourself for WHO you ARE and not for what you have.

‪#‎mindfulness‬ ‪#‎optimistic‬ ‪#‎meditation‬ Life's Purpose.... People think they are here for some "grand" accomplishment and are always searching for what that may be. They think that this grand goal is their life's purpose. That is never their purpose. It may be the outcome or result but it is not their or your purpose.

Our purpose is to experience life and then learn how to take control of it and guide it to whatever pleases us; kind of like a ride at an amusement park. The experiences that happen to us are there for us to live our lives and practice and learn how to take control and guide it to whatever direction you want.

We learn that in order to do this we need to overcome fear as an example or learn to trust our abilities (which is the opposite to fear). Once we think we are getting a handle on taking control then we have to practice this new skill; overcoming fear and trusting. The more we practice the better we get and the more choices we have in life to experience even more and to do what is fun or exciting or fulfilling etc as we practice. That practice and doing may result in teaching others (writing books or being Oprah) or accumulating wealth (playing a game of Monopoly) or may result in just being content in your leaning with your close friends and family and not really having anything "grand" other than raising a family with nice children.

I think too many people think the purpose is the "outcome" of the practiced exercises when in fact it's the learning itself.

To me my purpose is the path of waking up, paying attention, learning to guide my life because I realize I have the control and then HAVE FUN while I guide it to wherever I want. When I learn more I want to share it with others so I started this page. My life's purpose is not teaching or starting FaceBook pages or becoming famous... it is the learning. It is certainly fun sharing and helping others but that is an outcome not the goal.

‪#‎mindfulness‬ ‪#‎optimistic‬ ‪#‎meditation‬ Inner Child... Many times our negative thinking was implanted into our minds from our childhoods. Perhaps you had a comment from a teacher or classmates or parents that cause you to think negatively about yourself or your abilities or your life. Perhaps you were seeking soothing from the adults around you and they would or could not give you what you needed. Maybe this lack of support made things even worse.

Identify this negative thinking and come up with Optimistic outlooks which counter these negative thoughts. Find a picture of yourself as a child and as you look at it lovingly and compassionately say to your inner child all the things that you wanted to hear at that time in the past. Say to this child the affirming positive statements which reinforce a positive self image.

Over time you will see these new thoughts take hold as you distance yourself from the belief in those negative old ways of thinking.

‪#‎mindfulness‬ ‪#‎optimistic‬ ‪#‎meditation‬ Goals and small steps... Many times we want to be successful and accomplish some goals and yet we start to generate negative thinking that causes us to not reach them. Write down your fantasy of how you see yourself in 5 years - Personal - Professional - Spiritual etc...

What are the negative thoughts that come into your head as you are writing and reading your goals? Are you discounting or minimizing your abilities because you think you cannot be perfect? Are you worried what people may think IF you fail? Are you worried of success - YES sometimes we fear success because we worry about "the next step" after we succeeded.

Notice all your negative thoughts and create some Optimistic Outlooks for EACH one.

Make these outlooks realistic and balanced and always positive. What can you do today to start reaching your goals. Do something small. Tomorrow do something small again etc...

Thinking better will lead you to feeling better which will allow you to take better actions. Small steps are the key and when you feel more at ease you can then take larger steps - be patient and you will be amazed at what you can accomplish!

#‎mindfulness‬ ‪#‎optimistic‬ ‪#‎meditation‬ Quietening the mind and Meditation.... What really happens when you meditate?

When people are feeling badly they search for ways to quiet the mind; to turn off their brains. They are aware of the negative chatter and are not happy about it. Please remember that you cannot stop your brain from generating thoughts. You cannot stop the chatter. You CAN however retrain it to generate better, more Optimistic thoughts.

Once you have identified exactly what you are thinking that makes you feel badly, you can create balanced Optimistic counter thoughts that re-frame a current situation in a better light. The issue most of us have is that we revert back to that negative chatter very often.

One way of taking hold of your thinking and being able to guide it to where you want it to be is to start Meditating on a regular basis. Meditation helps you train yourself to guide your thoughts to were YOU want them to be. During the practice of Meditation you learn and are able to practice the ability to "start over". When your mind wonders you can start over and re-focus on your breathing for example. This exact practice helps you in your daily life by allowing you to guide your thinking back to what is positive about yourself and/or your surroundings. This is exactly what you do when you meditate. Whenever your mind wonders to negative thinking, the training that you have been doing while meditating (guiding your thoughts to where you want them to be) is used to guide your mind to more balanced Optimistic thinking.

When you start to move your thinking to better thoughts (that you believe to be true) these thoughts will always make you feel better. When you feel better your actions are better.

Give Meditation a try!

#‎mindfulness‬ ‪#‎optimistic‬ ‪#‎meditation‬ You CAN really change your beliefs ... When you first start paying attention to your thoughts, you may find some surprising ones. You may be a little disturbed by the amount of negative chatter that you create which is directed towards yourself and others.

Don't be put OFF by these thoughts. They are normal and you were just taught to process your life and surroundings in this way. YOU CAN CHANGE!

Once you start noticing this chatter - Meditation helps to be aware of what is going on in our minds - you can examine these beliefs and question them for their validity. At this point you can start to Counter your negative thoughts with more Optimistic self talk. Is there something about each situation that you can be grateful for? Is there something you are learning that it positive? Is there something that you are assuming that COULD be incorrect?

Come up with counter thoughts that are better than the ones you are currently reciting to yourself. Remember that they only have to be just slightly better and you will know you are on the right track because you will start to feel a little bit better than when you started.

You may need to recite your more Optimistic statements several times a day. After they take hold (and they will) you are in a maintenance mode where you just reinforce your Optimistic thinking constantly and it's not a big deal at all!

Let your feelings be your guide for they are your indicator that your thoughts are Optimistic. When your active beliefs are positive you feel great.

#‎mindfulness‬ ‪#‎optimistic‬ ‪#‎meditation‬ Release Control... Are you always trying to get people and events to happen exactly the way you want and are upset then this does not happen? Are you getting anxious whenever you sense that you cannot control every situation?

Releasing control of your surroundings happens when you no longer believe that any situation or possession or action of others will make you feel better. In fact nothing external can ever make you feel better in the long run.

Recognize that your own goodness is never tied to what others do or external outcomes. You are good JUST AS YOU ARE! Your own goodness is not increased if you loose more weight or have more shoes or buy a nice car! When you believe in your own self worth and goodness then and only then your need for control disappears !

Come up with some comforting and affirming statements about yourself. Write them out in the same way that you would tell your best friend or your child. Now say them to yourself in the mirror. Look into your eyes when you say them. If you find yourself looking away then that is an indication that you feel you are not worthy to hear these nice things. You may want to start off slowly and work your way up the Optimistic ladder. It will take hold very soon!!!

#‎mindfulness‬ ‪#‎optimistic‬ ‪#‎meditation‬ Prayer and moving forward... Prayer is a great way some people find comfort believing that some higher power is looking out for their best interest.

The next time you want to seek help from your higher power (or inner power) then express appreciation and ask for guidance, strength and wisdom. Refrain from asking for specifics - like to win a baseball game or get a new car etc... because these things are just temporary and will not help you in the long run.

Sit quietly and while you pray, allow for inspiration and guidance to come to mind. "What is it I need to know..." is a great ask. Guidance via small steps is perfect because you can always take some small step immediately. These small steps will come to mind and help you get through a tough situation step by step. No need to rush anything.

These initial small steps will lead to others and so on and so on and so on. Before you know it you are well on your way to making forward progress.

Being still and Meditating while listening for inspiration is a perfect exercise to do when ever you feel stuck.

#‎mindfulness‬ ‪#‎optimistic‬ ‪#‎meditation‬ Let the past go... Many people agree when you say you need to let the past go. What does that mean?

Letting the past go, is when you stop replaying a past situation over and over in your mind thinking you should have or could have done something differently.

In order to do this you must first start with recognizing that the past is over and you acknowledge and accept what has actually happened. You cannot change anything now, no matter how many times you rehash the situation in your mind.

Forgive yourself and others if need be. We all do the best we can do at that time - and you did as well. THIS IS WHAT YOU NEED TO TELL YOURSELF!

Perhaps you can also learn from this experience. We ALL can learn from your mistakes and the mistakes of others.

One way to look at the Optimistic side is to look for the lessons to be learned. Remember that every situation has some positive aspects about it even thought it may not have been the desired outcome.

Recite these Optimistic Outlooks to yourself on a daily basis and you will move past your past and let it all go as it is done.

‪#‎mindfulness‬ ‪#‎optimistic‬ ‪#‎meditation‬ Happiness... Some people talk about finding happiness. Do you look for external things to make you happy? Do you think people's actions make you happy? Do you think your own actions make you happy?

Happiness is never achieved by any action or thing! Happiness comes from within and how you think about yourself. You always have the ability to be happy and it's within you!

Your thoughts (when they are Optimistic thoughts) and you believe them to be true cause you to feel happy. ALWAYS! We just need to be aware of our thinking and our emotions give us feedback about the content of our active beliefs. Once you know what they are you can change them. Mindfulness Meditation practices help us listen and understand our inner thoughts/emotions/body sensations.

Reciting daily Affirmations, Gratitude Statements and Counter Points that counter our false negative beliefs definitely help you think and believe happier thoughts automatically over time. Start slowly and work your way up the Optimistic ladder. Be gentle and patient.

Changing your beliefs may take some time but you CAN do it with simple regular exercises! The key is to come up with realistic and gentle thoughts that guide you towards the better beliefs that you want to ultimately get to.

‪#‎mindfulness‬ ‪#‎optimistic‬ ‪#‎meditation‬ Denial... Someone once said to me that Optimistic thinking is ignoring reality and you are in a bubble of denial. Thinking Optimistically is NOT living in denial! You are focusing on the positive aspects of any situation.

That does not mean that you must somehow "like" a negative outcome, you are just not focusing on that negative outcome. What you are doing is gently steering your attention towards something positive about that situation - every situation has something positive. Meditation practices help us learn to guide our focus to our breath for example. We learn to notice when our mind wanders off our breath and learn to start over non-judgmentally and guide it back. This skill can be used in many situations.

When you practice guiding your thinking to better thoughts on a regular basis it does get easier and easier. We notice the wandering mind sooner as well as it becomes easier to refocus back on something more positive an optimistic.
